Besides, they are also receiving capacity and skill training and workshops continuously from famous institutions and individuals inside and outside of the country. They all share the core value of “quality” and “accountability”.
We are altogether over 30 people dedicating towards the capacity development of Myanmar Citizens working in the social and development sector.

About CBI
The concept of CBI was started early 90s when pioneers of INGOs such as Save the Children (UK & US) and World Vision came into Myanmar. These organizations initiated together with UNICEF a program to build and enhance skills and knowledge of Myanmar who worked with them. The program was called “Myanmar Developed Resource Program” and provided trainings and workshops to Myanmar staff between 1998 to 2000. After evaluating that program, it was agreed and decided to continue the program as a project and they selected the name of a project “Capacity Building Initiative” and the project was launched in early 2001.
CBI implemented different lengths of projects up to June 2010. Within 10 years of projects implementation, CBI was able to conduct 155 different types and names of trainings with a number of 2101 participants at CBI center in Yangon. At the same time, CBI was also implemented 83 times of different trainings in different parts of the country with a total of 2158 participants. In addition to that CBI facilitated 25 Organization Capacity Assessment Workshops (OCA).
After completion of the project phase, the steering committee and all CBI staff decided to transform CBI into a local NGO and continued provision of building services. Within 2 years from July 2010 to June 2012 CBI was able to conduct 67 times of training in Yangon CBI centre with 1196 participants from INGOs and MNGOs.
Upon the demand and request by Myanmar NGOs, INGOs and some UN Agencies, CBI conducted 88 different trainings in the distant areas and ethnic regions with 2015 participants. 25 different Myanmar Organizations requested CBI to facilitate OCA workshops during the period and another 10 organizations developed their strategic plans with the support of CBI.
For 9 years period from 2001 to 2010, International NGOs of Trocaire, Oxfam (GB and HK) mainly supported financial assistant and INGOs in the country also supported in many ways. Within the 2 years period of 2010 to 2012, INGOs such as Trocaire, Welthungerhilfe (WHH), Church World Service (CWS), Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) and US Embassy supported fund to CBI to implement the activities. CBI is grateful to the Steering Committee for its continuous and earnest leadership, INGOs and MNGOs who supported CBI heartily and of course Oxfam International, Trocaire, Welthungerhilfe (WHH), Church World Services (CWS), Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) and US Embassy.
Currently, CBI is implementing two projects funded by Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) and European Union (EU). As CBI was born out of the need for the better performance and competency of NGOs, CBI will continue to survive for NGOs.
